The Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Dontcho Barbalov, attended the official signing of a contract for the delivery and long-term maintenance of 25 electric trains, which are expected to arrive in Bulgaria within two years.
The event took place as part of the Day of Czech Statehood, organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Czech Centre, and the Sofia Municipality. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Miroslav Toman, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Bulgaria.
The contract was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Czech company Škoda Group and the Director of Sofia Public Transport Company.
In addition to the delivery, the contract includes a 15-year maintenance programme for the trains, with an option for extension. The project will lead to the creation of around 30 new jobs. It also involves the introduction of new equipment and modernisation measures, as well as the training of personnel. The trains are of the 7Ev model, RegioPanter modification, each consisting of four carriages and providing more than 300 seats.
Deputy Minister Barbalov commented that the Ministry of Economy and Industry supports strategic partnerships that combine technological innovation with long-term benefits, generating new employment opportunities.
The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Bulgaria, for his part, highlighted that cooperation between Bulgaria and the Czech Republic will continue to grow.
