Safety in Action: UNM Campus Safety Week returns

Each September, colleges and universities across the country recognize National Campus Safety Awareness Month, an initiative established by Congress in 2008 to encourage greater awareness, education and dialogue around campus safety.

The month provides an opportunity for campus communities to highlight resources, share best practices and engage students, faculty and staff in efforts to prevent violence, promote preparedness and strengthen a shared commitment to creating safe and welcoming learning environments.

At The University of New Mexico, that commitment comes to life through the annual Campus Safety Week, when the Lobo community comes together for workshops, demonstrations, outreach events and other activities focused on safety and security issues affecting students, faculty, staff and the broader campus community.

Campus Safety Week also provides an opportunity to connect Lobos with the people, programs and resources available to help keep them informed and prepared, while reinforcing the important role every member of the UNM community plays in campus safety.

This year, UNM's annual Campus Safety Week runs Sept. 14-18, with Central Campus Safety Day set for Tuesday, Sept. 15, from noon to 4 p.m.
