Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Receives $500,000 Gift to Expand Patient Services, Helping Patients Navigate the Right Track: Finding the Right Team, the Right Tests and the[...]

The Gift is Part of PanCAN's $250 Million All Together We Can Campaign to Accelerate Breakthrough Research, Expand Patient Support, and Champion a Thriving Community

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - (July 7, 2026) - The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) today announced a $500,000 gift from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation to expand its one-of-a-kind PanCAN Patient Services program which provides patients and families with personalized support to navigate their diagnosis and treatment, empowering them to advocate for the care they deserve at every step of their pancreatic cancer journey.

The gift is part of PanCAN's All Together We Can campaign that launched in April. All Together We Can is PanCAN's most ambitious fundraising campaign yet - a five-year, $250 million campaign to accelerate breakthrough research, expand its Patient Services program, and further strengthen the pancreatic community to bring us closer to the survival rates patients deserve.

Patient Services provides more resources and speaks with more patients with pancreatic cancer and caregivers than any other organization in the world. The best-in-class program provides free, personal, one-on-one support and information about the disease.

The gift will be used to expand PanCAN's Patient Services to ensure all patients, families and healthcare professionals, including underserved populations, are connected to PanCAN's highly trained Case Managers and can navigate the Right Track - finding the right team, the right tests, and the right treatment. It will also be used to leverage strategic partnerships with other patient-facing organizations to augment PanCAN patient-focused programs and services and expand PanCAN's ability to support patients and their families.

"We are incredibly grateful to The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation," said Julie Fleshman, JD, MBA, president and CEO of PanCAN. "Pancreatic cancer is one of the toughest diagnoses a family can face. Too often, it's discovered late, leaving patients with far fewer options than they deserve. Thanks to gifts like this, we can provide more support and hope for patients and their families."

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and is on track to become the second. With a five-year survival rate of only 13%, it remains the only major cancer whose survival rate is below 20%. Because symptoms are often vague and mimic other conditions, most patients are diagnosed in the later stages, when tumors are inoperable and treatment options are limited. Detecting the disease earlier, when surgery is possible, is critical to improving outcomes. There is no standard screening strategy for pancreatic cancer and few treatment options, highlighting the urgent need for increased funding and awareness to improve patient outcomes.

The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation makes grants in three priority areas: conservation, performing arts and social impact. After the passing of Paul's son from pancreatic cancer in 2022, foundation founder and president, Charles T. Angell, the foundation expanded its focus to include support for pancreatic cancer research.

"Pancreatic cancer has touched our Foundation personally, giving us a deep understanding of the profound impact this disease has on patients and their families," said Kim Van Horn, CEO of the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation. "We are proud to support PanCAN's Patient Services program, which provides vital resources and compassionate guidance to those navigating this devastating diagnosis."
