City Council will discuss urban planning at special meeting

Sept. 22, 2025 - The City Council will begin its day on Wednesday with a special session at the Hampton Roads Convention Center that will also include the School Board, the Planning Commission, the Economic Development Authority and the Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

The 10 a.m. special session will be followed at 2 p.m. by a closed session meeting. The regular afternoon work session will not be held this week. The 6:30 p.m. legislative session in chambers on the eighth floor of City Hall will be preceded by a ceremonial spotlight session at 6 in which the council will recognize individuals whose expertise helped Hampton earn its fifth All-America City designation, but who were not part of the delegation that participated in the presentation before the National Civic League.

The morning session at the convention center will give the City Council and the other agencies the opportunity to give presentations and discuss topics related to urban planning and placemaking.

In the closed session, the council will discuss committee appointments, as well as the disposition of publicly held property in the Briarfield area.

The agenda for the evening legislative session originally included consideration of an ordinance amending the city code to prohibit camping and storage on public property, but the City Council now plans to defer that item until a later date.

The legislative session will include a public hearing that reviews the Community Development Block Grant & Home 2024 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report.

The morning and evening sessions are open to the public. The evening session will be broadcast on the city's TV station, Cox 47 and Verizon 22 and streamed live at hampton.gov/livetv. The morning session will be recorded and posted online. Click here for full agendas and details on how to attend.
