Leading up to the celebration of National Public Work Week - observed May 17-23 this year - the City of Norman has opened a Coloring Contest for students and individuals of all ages.
This year's theme, "Rooted in Service, Powered by Community" - is atop the coloring sheet - and highlights how public works professionals build, manage and maintain essential infrastructure to improve quality of life, sustainability and safety.
There is no cost to participate and coloring sheets can be downloaded and printed from Normanok.gov. Contestants should include the following information on the back of each form: Name, school, grade and contact information. The contest is limited to one entry per person. The deadline to submit entries is 5 p.m. May 19. Entries can be submitted in-person during traditional business hours at the Public Works Department, 225 N. Webster Avenue, or by mail to the same address; or by email at [email protected]. Questions can be directed to Michelle Scott at 405-307-7119.
Three prizes will be awarded to three winners. Winners will be notified on May 21. Acceptable materials for the coloring contest are crayons, markers, colored pencils or paints.
Other celebratory activities planned this year to recognize local Public Works crews include a Mayoral Proclamation and Touch-a-Truck event with a local elementary school.
Public Works is comprised of seven functional divisions in the City of Norman and oversee transportation, stormwater management, flood control and subdivision development services through development facilitation, construction, rehabilitation and the operation and maintenance of critical public infrastructure.
