Summer getaway planning is in full swing. From domestic day trips to international adventures, we looked at Google Flights and Search trends to determine what's on everyone's mind this year as it relates to travel - and to inspire those of us who haven't started planning yet.

Explore the trending destinations for 2026

Whether you prefer relaxing beachside or exploring a city, there's something for everyone in this summer's trending destinations on Google Flights.

So you've picked a destination, now what? From airborne adventures to local food tours, travelers are exploring everything their trip has to offer.

• Zip-lining was the top trending Sint Maarten travel activity searched in the past month. Mullet Bay Beach was a breakout search.
• People searching for "what to do" in Kansas City in the past month also searched for "best BBQ in Kansas City." Also, searches for "fried chicken Kansas City" doubled.
• Search interest in "best restaurants in Mexico City" hit a 10-year high in 2026, and "Mexico City street food tour" was a trending street food search in the past month.
• Port de Soller was the top trending Palma beach town in the past month, and "beach clubs Mallorca" was a breakout search.

Using AI for travel planning

In 2026, travelers are turning to AI for help with their trip planning. Search interest in "AI travel assistant" and "AI concierge" has grown by 350% over the past year. "How to use AI to find flight deals" was a trending "flight deals" question on Search in the past month, and "AI flight booking" spiked by +315%. Traveling trends, from solo to social

People also seem to be embracing their independence as they plan their 2026 adventures. Search interest in "solo travel" hit an all-time high, and "women solo travel" reached a 15-year high. But traveling alone doesn't mean you have to be lonely. Searches for "travel groups" and "tour groups" also hit record highs in 2026, suggesting that travelers - whether they're on their own or with friends - are looking for ways to connect with others on their trips.

Sticking to a single destination

People are prioritizing immersion and connection. "Slow travel" - where you stay in one place for an extended period of time instead of rushing through a handful of stops - hit an all-time high this year, and search interest in "slow travel Italy" is up 100% in the past month. "Month long hotel stay" and "month long yoga retreat" were the top trending "month long" searches in the past month.
