On Allegro! -- the Ian Hughes Quartet House Concert
The Ian Hughes Quartet is celebrating their recently released album Dreamscapes, and will have vinyl and cds available. Here's a link: https://www.submithub.com/link/dreamscapes-presale-streaming
The quartet is comprised of Ian Hughes, guitar; Michael Jedynak, alto sax; Marina Christopher, upright bass (and maybe some vocals); and Chris Patin, drums. The sound they create is a combination of airy guitar and sax-driven modern jazz. The music blends elements of americana and occasionally a little touch of funk and hip hop.
The players are regulars on the Seattle jazz scene, playing not only with Ian's group but with their own projects. Ian may be familiar through his group Half Giraffe; Marina plays and sings with her group Marina and the Dreamboats; Michael works with his project TriMic; and Chris works regularly with vocalist Josephine Howell, after his touring experiences with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra.

The Rumble & Toubab Krewe - This Thursday
Ecstatic Sound Collective (the folks behind Olympia Funk Festival) is bringing an incredible double-bill to the Capitol Theater: The Rumble ft. Chief Joseph Boudreaux + Toubab Krewe
This is going to be a night of deep grooves, powerful rhythms, and serious dancefloor energy. The Rumble brings the spirit of New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian culture to life-with GRAMMY-nominated musicians delivering a modern, electrified take on classic NOLA funk (think The Meters meets the future). It's immersive, vibrant, and unlike anything else you'll see on stage.
Toubab Krewe is a genre-defying powerhouse out of Asheville, blending rock, West African influences, jam, and global sounds into something completely their own. It's expansive, high-energy, and totally transportive.
Expect infectious grooves, positive vibrations, and a whole lot of dancing.
-
This Thursday, March 26
-
Olympia Film Society - 206 5th Ave SE, Olympia
