ANTICIPATE Project Meeting in Naples

On December 12, 2024, the ANTICIPATE project team gathered in Naples to evaluate progress and discuss strategies for the future of air traffic management. The meeting covered key topics such as improving operational scenarios, addressing challenges in airspace management, and exploring innovative solutions for a more efficient aviation system.

A major focus was on defining realistic scenarios and identifying how new tools and automation could enhance decision-making processes for air traffic controllers. The team discussed balancing complexity in air traffic flows, ensuring safety, and optimizing efficiency. Questions were raised about how artificial intelligence could support operations, including the importance of AI providing clear explanations for its decisions.

Another highlight was the integration of Virtual Centers, a concept that allows for greater flexibility and resilience in managing airspace. These centers aim to modernize traditional systems, making them more adaptable to future needs.

The team also emphasized the importance of collaborating with regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders to ensure alignment with existing standards and future goals. Discussions included outreach strategies to maximize the project's impact and involve key stakeholders.

Clustering activities with ANTICIPATE siblings projects was also discussed and the whole consortium agreed on the importance of fostering joint initiatives.

The meeting concluded with plans for further research and preparations for the next gathering in Milan, scheduled for May 2025. ANTICIPATE continues to push boundaries in shaping the future of European aviation.
