CARLSBAD, Calif. - DCN Dx today announced its acquisition of BioSouthTech, Inc., a human biospecimen provider headquartered in the Miami area, with a collection network across Latin America, including South America, and access to specimens from the Caribbean. The acquisition expands DCN Dx's sample bank and patient access for drug and diagnostic research.
Access to a broader range of patient specimens helps diagnostic developers study how their tests perform across different populations. BioSouthTech expands that access through its banked specimens and Latin American collection network.
"We started our biospecimens business to give researchers better access to patients and support the collections their studies require," said Charlie Mamrak, CEO of DCN Dx. "Patient diversity was central to that decision. BioSouthTech gives our customers more ways to reach populations that their existing specimen sources may not represent."
For developers of liquid biopsy assays, including multi-cancer early detection (MCED) and measurable residual disease (MRD) tests, specimens must reflect the disease stages and patient populations under study. The acquisition broadens DCN Dx's sourcing options for oncology, neurology, and autoimmune disease research.
"You can't develop a test for everyone on data from a few," said Jim Boushell, senior vice president of biospecimens at DCN Dx. "For two decades, I've watched technology evolve on data that doesn't quite reflect the patients those tests are meant to serve. We pursued BioSouthTech to give developers access to more diverse patient populations, including treatment-naive patients. Patient diversity must be part of the evidence."
Starting now, DCN Dx customers can request characterized tissue and matched sets off the shelf or stand-up prospective collections designed to their own protocol across oncology, neurology, and infectious disease. The network already reaches patients across a range of ancestries and regions, and new geographies and expanded cohorts are planned for early 2027.
