CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Drivers traveling near Virgil Smith Road in Cumberland County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic. Beginning Monday, March 17, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. CT through Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. CT, Virgil Smith Road will be closed as part of the State Route 28 (US 127) improvement project from North of I-40 to Near Potato Farm Road in Cumberland County. The closure is necessary for installing a concrete pipe. Traffic will be detoured at Fredonia Road.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution as they travel through this area and expect significant delays. Signage will be posted directing drivers through the work zone. This work is weather-dependent. Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances cause delays, it will be rescheduled to a later date.
