At approximately 10:30 this morning, the Elk Grove Unified School District received information about a student rumored to have a firearm on the campus of Elk Grove High School. Sacramento County Deputies and Elk Grove Police Officers assigned as School Resource Officers responded. As the 16-year-old student was being escorted to the front office with school staff, he began to resist and pull away from officers who were trying to handcuff him. After a brief struggle, the student was handcuffed and escorted to the front office. During a search, a loaded handgun was located in the student's backpack.
The student was taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Hall for several felony charges for having a loaded unserialized firearm on a school campus, as well as resisting arrest.
