Peake Speaks History Lecture Series-Tidewater Militiamen vs. Ethiopian Regiment: How Black and White Freedom Fighters Brought the Revolutionary War to Chesapeake

Explore the lesser-know stories of the American Revolution, highlighting the contributions of ordinary citizens and free and enslaved Black individuals in the pursuit of independence. Renowned author Woody Holton shares how Royal Governor Lord Dunmore's Ethiopian Regiment, comprised of Black Virginians, played a important role in the outcomes of the Skirmish at Kemp's Landing and the Battle of Great Bridge.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for light refreshments and door prizes. Registration begins June 27, 2025. Advance registration appreciated but not required.
