Board Authorizes Mt Van Hoevenberg UMP Public Comment

RAY BROOK, NY - At the October Agency meeting, the Adirondack Park Agency Board authorized a joint public comment period for a unit management plan amendment and was briefed about community-focused planning initiatives by its 2024 Community Design and Planning intern and the population health of moose in New York State by the NYSDEC and Cornell University.

First, the Board authorized Agency staff to enter a joint public comment period with ORDA for a proposed amendment to the Mt Van Hoevenberg Intensive Use Area Unit Management Plan (UMP). The amendment would guide the modernization and repair of facilities at Mt Van Hoevenberg. The public comment period will be open from October 23 through November 25. More details about the project can be read online.

Then, the Board was provided with two informational presentations. The first was by 2024 Community Design and Planning intern Mistaya Smith, who presented on community-focused planning initiatives for the Towns of Keene and Hague. The second was by NYSDEC Big Game Biologist Jim Stickles and Cornell University Ph.D. candidate Jen Grauer, who jointly presented on the status of moose in New York State and the impacts of parasites on population health.
