Incident this afternoon at the Sports Complex

To the Temple community,

This afternoon, just after 4:30 p.m., Temple University's Department of Public Safety (TUDPS) issued a TUAlert in response to a shooting that was reported on the 1300 block of N. Broad St., within the vicinity of the Temple Sports Complex.

At the time of the shooting, the field hockey teams for La Salle University and Saint Louis University were competing in a contest at the Sports Complex. Most importantly, no injuries have been reported. We are grateful for our Temple Police Officers, as well as officers from the Philadelphia Police Department who swiftly responded after the gunshots were heard.

Both teams and all spectators immediately evacuated from the field and stands into the locker room, and the game was called and did not resume. Law enforcement cleared the area and ensured it was safe, at which point both teams left the facility. University officials are reaching out to leadership at La Salle University and Saint Louis University.

At this time, no shooter has been identified, and there are believed to be no victims. The shots were fired in the vicinity of an off-campus fast-food restaurant on Broad Street. The Philadelphia Police Department is leading this investigation.
