Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs meets with Ambassador of Australia to Thailand

On 31 July 2025, Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Ms. Angela Jane Macdonald, Ambassador of Australia to Thailand.

Both sides discussed ways to advance the close and dynamic bilateral relations and cooperation under the Thailand - Australia Strategic Partnership, including the development of a new Joint Plan of Action to Implement the Thailand-Australia Strategic Partnership (2026-2029), cooperation on security and combating transnational crime, Australia's significant role and potential cooperation with Thailand on the development of the Mekong sub-region and South Pacific region, promotion of two-way trade and investment, as well as follow-up on scheduled meetings and dialogues under various bilateral mechanisms.

Additionally, both sides exchanged views on the Thailand-Cambodia border situation. The Director-General briefed the Ambassador on Thailand's efforts to de-escalate tensions following the recent ceasefire agreement. Thailand remains committed to resolving the situation peacefully through bilateral negotiations, including mechanisms such as the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. The Ambassador welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia and expressed support for continued efforts by both sides to ease tensions and pursue a peaceful resolution.
