ATLANTA - State Representative Arlene Beckles (D-Norcross) has been elected to serve on the Executive Board of the Women's Legislative Network of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), a professional development organization that brings together women state legislators from across the 50 states, territories and the District of Columbia.
"Women legislators bring unique perspectives, experiences and leadership to the work of building stronger communities and better public policy," said Rep. Beckles. "I am honored to serve on the Executive Board of the Women's Legislative Network and to work alongside women leaders from across the country. I look forward to helping create opportunities for women legislators to connect, grow and lead, while sharing ideas and experiences that can strengthen our state legislatures and the communities we serve."
The Women's Legislative Network works to promote the participation, empowerment and leadership of women legislators. The network provides opportunities for women legislators to connect with colleagues across the country, exchange ideas and experiences and participate in professional development, informational briefings and skill-building workshops.
The Women's Legislative Network Executive Board is responsible for the ongoing administration and affairs of the network, maintaining a close working relationship with NCSL and providing direction to the organization. Board members serve one-year terms and are elected by the network's membership at its annual meeting.
Rep. Beckles has been an active member of NCSL throughout her tenure as a state legislator and has participated in discussions and programs addressing issues affecting state legislatures and legislative leadership. Through this new role with the Women's Legislative Network, she will help advance opportunities for women legislators to build leadership skills, develop professional relationships and learn from one another.
