Convicted Sex Offender Arrested for November 5 Attack on Woman at Her Germantown Area Apartment Building

Special Victims detectives today arrested convicted sex offender Joequarius Williams, 29, on charges of attempted murder and robbery for attacking a 25-year-old woman after following her to her Germantown apartment building as she walked home from a Bridgestone Arena concert on the night of November 5.

MNPD Crime Laboratory analysis of fingerprint evidence developed by officers who responded to the attack led to the identification of Williams as the suspect. The victim subsequently identified him from a photo lineup.

The victim reported noticing a man following her from a distance as she walked on 3rd Avenue North near Brooklyn Bowl. As she arrived at her apartment building and opened the lobby door, the man asked her to hold the door for him, which she did. The two got onto the elevator together, at which point he grabbed the victim around the neck from behind and said he was going to kill her. She lost consciousness briefly due to strangulation. When she came to, the man was on top of her. When the elevator door opened, she managed to break free and run away from him. He took her keys and cell phone, which officers recovered outside the apartment building and processed for fingerprints.

Williams was convicted of aggravated assault and attempted forcible rape of a 27-year-old woman from an August 2019 incident at a Glastonbury Road apartment complex. He was sentenced to probation and placed on Tennessee's sex offender registry. Probation violation warrants are expected to be filed by the state.

A judicial commissioner today set bond for Williams at $10.1 million.
