House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting to Hold First Meeting in Cartersville

ATLANTA - The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding and Budgeting, chaired by State Representative Chas Cannon (R-Moultrie), will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Clarence Brown Conference Center in Cartersville, Georgia.

During the meeting, study committee members will discuss overall top issues for local governments, municipal electric franchise fees and local tax abatements. Study committee members will hear testimony from representatives with the Georgia Municipal Association, Association County Commissioners of Georgia, Georgia School Boards Association, Georgia School Superintendents Association, Georgia County Managers Association and the Georgia City-County Management Association, as well as MEAG Power, Georgia Power and Georgia EMC. Public comments will also be welcomed.

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting will evaluate Georgia's local funding mechanisms to strengthen transparency, ensure fairness for hardworking taxpayers and increase fiscal accountability for local governments.
