APCO Seeks Comments on Candidate Standard titled Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators

Alexandria, VA - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International seeks comments for the candidate American National Standard (ANS) titled Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Telecommunicators.

This standard defines baseline training requirements necessary to prepare public safety telecommunicators to handle emergency and non-emergency incidents including requests for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services. It addresses essential knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) across various subject areas.

"This updated standard represents the collective expertise of 9-1-1 professionals from across the country who understand firsthand the evolving demands facing telecommunicators today," said Jack Varnado, president of APCO International, "As the emergency communications landscape continues to advance with new technologies and increasing call complexity, it's critical that we ensure every public safety telecommunicator receives comprehensive, consistent training."

The public may review and comment on this candidate standard September 5 through October 20 via the APCO website.
