A new collective bargaining agreement has been approved between The University of Toledo and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Ohio Council 8 and AFSCME Local 2415.

The UToledo Board of Trustees approved the agreement April 14 during a special meeting. Union membership ratified the agreement March 24, 2025.

AFSCME represents approximately 1,900 employees on the University's Health Science Campus.

The AFSCME contract is effective upon ratification by the bargaining unit and approval by the Board and will run through June 30, 2027. The parties also agreed to extend a temporary pay memorandum of understanding (MOU).

The new collective bargaining agreement includes a market adjustment and 3% wage increase in the first year for employees not under the existing MOU, a 2.5% increase in year two for employees not under the existing MOU, and a 2.5% increase in year three. Lump sum payments of $300 in the first two years and $100 in the third year are included for all eligible employees.

Trustees also approved candidates for tenure and promotion at the meeting. In total 17 faculty members received promotion and tenure, five received tenure only, 21 received promotion to professor and 13 were promoted to associate professor.

In addition, the Board approved the purchase of a small piece of property on Fairlawn Avenue, approximately 0.016 acres located behind the College of Engineering buildings, for $500.

In other business, a resolution titled Authorization to Negotiate President's Employment Agreement was approved by the Board. The resolution created a Presidential Compensation Committee, with members to be appointed by the chair, to conduct negotiations with the successful candidate when selected as part of the search process for UToledo's 19th president.
