Bringing Food with You for the FIFA World Cup?

Make sure you follow the rules

If you are bringing meat, poultry, or egg products into the United States for personal use during the FIFA World Cup 2026, there are specific rules you must follow. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) manages the import of these products to make sure they are safe to eat. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other agencies, including the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), will also inspect your products at the border or port of entry.

Key Points to Understand

  • Bringing it with you: You can bring up to 50 lbs. (22.7 kg) of meat, poultry, and egg products for personal use, as long as you bought them outside the United States.
  • Ordering it once you're in the U.S.: If you buy FSIS-regulated products online once you are within the U.S. and have them shipped from another country, even if under 50 lbs., these are treated as commercial shipments and must go through a full import inspection process. NOTE: Commercial shipments require more paperwork, must come from approved countries and facilities, and need an official export certificate and FSIS inspection before they can be sold in the U.S.
  • Products must be for your own use only. You cannot sell, donate, or give them to others.
  • All products will be inspected at the port of entry, and APHIS may have additional rules based on animal health concerns. Some products may need special permits or may not be allowed at all depending on disease risks from their country of origin.
  • When you leave: Products must either leave the U.S. with you when you depart or be disposed of properly. They cannot stay behind or be transferred to someone else.

What Should You Do?

  • Make sure your products meet FSIS rules found in Title 9 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Check with APHIS for the latest animal health restrictions before bringing in any products, as rules can change.
  • Be prepared for inspection at the border and follow all federal and local disposal rules if you do not take the products with you when you leave.
