Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D., Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and their Senate GOP colleagues introduced the Resolution Calling on the NCAA to Protect Women in Sports and 'American Girls in Sports Day' Resolution to continue the fight to bring awareness to and protect women and girls in sports across the country.
The Resolution Calling on the NCAA to Protect Women in Sports calls on the NCAA to revoke its transgender student-athlete eligibility policy, urges the NCAA to require its member conferences to conform to this biological sex-based policy across all sports and all divisions and calls on all sports-governing bodies in the U.S. to protect the category of women's sport for biological women and girls. The 'American Girls in Sports Day' resolution would recognize October 10 as 'American Girls in Sports Day' to celebrate the accomplishments of female athletes.
As an OBGYN and father, Sen. Marshall has been an advocate for protecting Title IX and the future of girls' and women's sports. Sen. Marshall spoke out against President Biden's anti-women Title IX rule and in August 2024, Senator Marshall urged the NCAA President to update their student-athlete policy to ensure only biologically female students can participate in women's sports. In October 2024, Senator Marshall joined Senator Blackburn in sending a letter to the NCAA urging them to update their student-athlete policy to enforce biological-sex-based eligibility across all sports and divisions.
Senator Marshall introduced the Defining Male and Female Act, a bill to codify legal definitions of male, female, and sex to ensure they are based on biology rather than ideology. The bill would restore the legal right of girls and women to sex-separate sports and scholarships. Most recently, Senator Marshall joined Senator Tuberville in introducing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, hallmark legislation preserving Title IX protections for female athletes.
