“Think Green This Spring” Returns To Encourage Sustainable Planting Season

Press Release

Des Moines, Iowa- Thursday, March 20, 2025 - Spring is officially back and so is the City of Des Moines' "Think Green This Spring" campaign.

The City of Des Moines invites residents to "Think Green This Spring" by taking steps toward a more sustainable community. This annual initiative connects residents with programs, resources, and events that promote environmental stewardship and align with the City's sustainability plan, ADAPT DSM.

"Think Green This Spring is about providing access to established resources and best practices to help our residents create meaningful environmental impact," said Mayor Connie Boesen. "This guide equips residents with the knowledge and tools to contribute to a greener, more sustainable Des Moines and get involved in sustainability in our community and with community partners."

The 2025 Think Green This Spring Digital Guide serves as a one-stop resource, offering practical ways to enhance pollinator habitats, expand the tree canopy, build rain gardens, restore soil, grow urban food supplies, master recycling, and more.

City events in the digital guide encourage planting in your backyard, keeping the earth clean, learning about Monarch butterflies and more:

No green thumb is required to participate-residents can take advantage of City programs and these simple ways to contribute to sustainability. Many of these initiatives have been growing from their initial "seeds" for years, reinforcing Des Moines' long-standing commitment to environmental action.

Additionally, City of Des Moines' social media pages will be highlighting sustainable home projects, city programs and ways to get involved in the community all spring long.
