Caltrans project provides significant upgrades to state highway

Post Date:10/07/2025 4:00 p.m.

On Monday, Oct. 6, Caltrans, local partners including the City of Mountain View, and community leaders, celebrated the completion of the State Route 82 (El Camino Real) Pavement Rehabilitation and ADA Improvements Project, a $55 million investment in safety, accessibility, and mobility.

In partnership with the City, Caltrans improved the state highway, adding accessible features for bicyclists and pedestrians. The project involved repaving and restriping the roadway, adding new protected bike lanes with flex posts that create a barrier between moving vehicles and bikers, and upgrading several pedestrian high-visibility crosswalks with pedestrian-activated signals along El Camino Real.

The El Camino Real project spanned several communities, including Mountain View, Los Altos, and Palo Alto.

For more details, view the Caltrans news release and the City's project webpage, MountainView.gov/ElCamino.
