On March 11, 2026 around 7:30 a.m., Spokane police responded to the area of 400 E. Sanson Avenue following a tip from the owner of a stolen laptop. The laptop owner had their vehicle prowled the day before and had informed officers the MacBook's location was showing at a house in the area of 400 E. Sanson Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers observed a black Ford Ranger with a couch in the truck bed, parked nearby in the 5300 block of N Addison St. Just prior, these officers investigated a burglary in the 1600 E. Central Avenue where a witness observed the black Ford Ranger leave the scene with a couch in the back.

Officers contacted a male that was in the detached garage of the N. Addison house. The male, identified as Zachary Guthas (30), eventually admitted to driving the black Ford Ranger and burglarizing the house on E Central Avenue.

An astute officer noticed several items of value in the vicinity and began checking serial numbers to see if the items were stolen. The officer learned a snowblower had been reported stolen in a prior incident.

With the knowledge that Guthas had burglarized a residence and confirmation that he was in possession of stolen property, officers petitioned for and were granted, by a Judge, a search warrant to search the property. During the search, officers recovered approximately $100,000 worth of stolen property and were able to get ahold of at least seventeen victims county wide. Among these items were tools, toolboxes, bikes, e-bikes, motorcycles, and yard/lawn tools.

Officers developed probable cause to arrest Guthas for Second Degree Residential Burglary and Second Degree Possession of Stolen Property.

If you have been a victim of a property crime in Spokane, don't hesitate to call crime check, , or 911. Be sure to provide a detailed list of stolen items and serial numbers (if possible). If you have been a victim of a property crime in Spokane County within the past year and believe your property may have been recovered, contact crime check, provide them with your report number, and give a detailed description of your item and the serial number.

The diligence of these officers shows the dedication of the Spokane Police department to this community, and we recognize the frustration of those who have been victims of a property crime.
