Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland, City Council, TDOT Deputy Commissioner Preston Elliot, and other transportation officials gathering, Aug. 28, 2025, to cut the ribbon for the new Murfreesboro Transit Center located at 324 New Salem Highway.
The Center will officially open to the public with new route changes in effect, Monday, Sept. 8, 2025.
The City of Murfreesboro broke ground for construction of the $17 million Transit Center, Oct. 27, 2023. The 2,375 square feet passenger pavilion, 3,200 square feet bus maintenance facility and new administration office building was made possible through $9 million in IMPROVE ACT State funds, $5 million in federal dollars, and $2.8 million in required local matching funds. The Transit Center, with a passenger pavilion, maintenance and administration building, will better facilitate transportation in the growing City. A partnership with WeGo Public Transit, locating near the Transit Center, will more effectively facilitate regional transportation. With the new Center open, Murfreesboro Transit's fleet of 12 buses,18 drivers, and staff members will relocate from its hub at 222. W. Burton in downtown Murfreesboro.
HDR provided design for the project and Franklin-based Rock City Construction was awarded the bid for the construction.
