Pontiac Residents Asked to Conserve Water, Boiling Not Necessary

Oakland County Times, May 11, 2026

Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash has shared information about how the water emergency in Auburn Hills and Orion Township are impacting residents and businesses in Pontiac.

There is no need to boil in Pontiac as users are down system from the problem areas.

However, "Outdoor watering restrictions are in effect for Pontiac water customers due to the Great Lakes Water Authority water main break."

Water from Pontiac's system is currently helping to supply users in Auburn Hills, Orion, Township, and Village of Lake Orion. Because of this, "Pontiac residents are strongly urged to avoid all nonessential outdoor water use, including lawn water, irrigation, and other outdoor water activities."

The restrictions are temporary while repairs are underway. The WRC cautions that "High water usage places additional strain on the regional water system and can result in low water pressure for homes, businesses, and critical facilities in neighboring communities. It can also reduce the amount of water available for firefighting purposes."
