SPECIAL EDITION: SPAR

SPAR (St. Pete Agile Resilience) is the City's initiative to accelerate critical infrastructure projects that improve resilience and address flooding risks. The program helps prioritize projects that protect public health, safety, and quality of life while preparing for future challenges.

Think of it as a roadmap for building a stronger, more resilient St. Pete - faster.

WHY NOW?

St. Pete is experiencing more frequent flooding events while infrastructure continues to age. SPAR was created to advance projects that address these risks and help the city adapt to changing conditions. This investment helps the City reduce the impacts of flooding on residents and neighborhoods.

NO RAIN ON OUR PARADE

Flooding impacts more than just roads. It can affect homes, businesses, utilities, transportation, and everyday life. SPAR focuses on reducing these impacts by prioritizing improvements that help the city better withstand heavy rainfall, tidal flooding, and severe weather.

A BIT OF THIS, A BIT OF THAT

SPAR isn't one project, it's a collection of many. The initiative includes stormwater improvements, wastewater infrastructure upgrades, flood protection measures, pump stations, electrical system improvements, and other resilience-focused investments that support a more resilient city.

TURNING CHALLENGES INTO SOLUTIONS

When recent hurricanes impacted critical city infrastructure, St. Pete responded by accelerating improvements through SPAR. One early success was strengthening the Northeast Water Reclamation Facility, helping protect an essential service that residents rely on every day. It's a powerful example of how SPAR is turning lessons learned into a stronger, more resilient city.

FAST & FLOOD-IOUS

A key goal of SPAR is acceleration. Infrastructure projects often require years of planning, design, permitting, and construction. SPAR provides a framework for identifying priority projects and moving them forward as efficiently as possible. By advancing priority projects sooner, the City can begin addressing infrastructure needs more quickly and deliver improvements to the community on an accelerated timeline.

INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE

Building and maintaining resilient infrastructure requires long-term investment. Utility and stormwater revenues support critical infrastructure systems throughout the city, and utility rate adjustments will continue to help fund ongoing improvements that enhance reliability, resilience, and service for the community.
