Assemblymember Mia Bonta Condemns Anti-Choice Federal Appeals Court Decision

Today, Assemblymember Mia Bonta (D-Oakland), Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, released the following statement in reaction to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocking mailing prescriptions of mifepristone:

"Mifepristone has proven to be safe time and time again, but what is truly dangerous is preventing women from having legal options to control their own bodies. When legal options vanish, women are forced to seek unsafe alternatives.

Restricting abortion medication leaves the future of access to medicine up to judges from the most extreme appeals court. Stopping this attack is crucial not only for abortion rights but for protecting all healthcare, including cancer treatment, HIV medication, and any other medications extremist republicans would choose to target next.

California will fight this with every tool in our arsenal."
