Bismarck, ND -- NDFB is encouraging voters to reject Measure 5 this November, expressing concerns about the impact of legalizing recreational marijuana on North Dakota's agricultural and business sectors.

"Our primary worry is the unintended consequences for farmers, ranchers, employers, and rural communities," said NDFB President Daryl Lies. "Workplace safety and accountability are major concerns. Measure 5 could make it harder for employers - especially those requiring drug testing-to find qualified workers. The potential strain on business owners would be significant."

"Even if recreational marijuana is legalized at the state level, federal regulations will still apply, creating legal uncertainties for employers," said Lies. "Farmers, ranchers, and other business owners could face increased liability under conflicting state and federal rules."

NDFB's current policy opposing recreational marijuana use reflects the organization's commitment to maintaining the safety and stability of rural communities. For more information, view the NDFB policy book at www.ndfb.org/policy/issues.
