Estimated read time - 1:40

Summer is a time for renewal and connection. This season, the Defence Community Support and Resource Centre (DCSRC) (formerly known as the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC)) is offering a range of summer peer support activities in partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) for people affected by sexual misconduct.

These activities provide confidential spaces for participants to connect with others who have shared lived experiences, share at their own comfort level, and build coping skills.

What's happening this summer?

Trauma informed yoga

Free, online sessions designed to support grounding and body awareness. Classes are:

  • Trauma-informed and suitable for all experience levels
  • Adaptable for mobility limitations; participants can use a chair or modify postures to accommodate reduced mobility or injuries
  • Led by a certified instructor with support from a mental health worker
  • Offered in English and French

New Yoga Flow for beginners starting July 2026

An introductory series focused on simple movements, steady pacing, and accessible instruction. Participants can adapt movements as needed.

Virtual Coffee Chats Summer Series

Informal peer support sessions where participants can talk or just listen. Sessions are:

  • Facilitated by a peer supporter and/or mental health worker
  • Offered for women, men, and all genders
  • Available in English and French
  • Flexible, drop-in format. Participants can join as many sessions as they want

Learning Together peer support groups

Structured groups that combine learning with peer support giving participants a chance to grow, heal, and support one another. Groups are:

  • Focused on healing, growth, and shared experiences, with guided group discussions
  • Include both themed and informal discussions depending on the participants' needs at the time of the session
  • Facilitated by trained facilitator
  • Each new group will explore different thematic discussions

Seasonal activities and special events

In addition to ongoing peer support activities, the Peer Support Program is offering seasonal workshops and special events throughout the year to help participants connect, slow down, and focus on their well being in a supportive group setting, including:

  • Guided meditation
  • Writing sessions
  • Peer-led creative activities
  • Information sessions about Peer Support services

This summer, an Earth Rhythm Meditation and Writing event will take place in June. For more information, consult the website.
