What New Laws are Taking Effect January 1st?

December 12, 2025

As we turn the page to 2026, I want to take a moment to share what's ahead for Illinois and how I'm working to make sure our laws reflect the values of fairness, accountability, and compassion.

One measure that weighs heavily on me is HB 3572, which expands a diversion program for individuals found unfit to stand trial. While I understand the intent, I believe we must ensure accountability doesn't slip through the cracks and that victims are never forgotten.

We're also entering new territory with HB 3773, which sets rules for the use of AI in hiring. These mandates increase compliance obligations and raise the risk of litigation for businesses. I've heard from small business owners who worry that even minor missteps could lead to costly penalties, and I share their concerns.

But there are bright spots worth celebrating. HB 2774, a bill I proudly co-sponsored, strengthens Illinois' domestic violence hotline, making it easier for survivors to get immediate support when they need it most. And my own legislation, HB 3377, will shine a light on how schools use federal funds to support students experiencing homelessness, ensuring those resources truly reach the kids who need them.

As always, I'm committed to pushing back on laws that make life harder for families and small businesses, and to championing the ones that move our communities forward in meaningful ways.

Page for a Day

I can't believe it's already December! I was looking back at all the students who joined me this year as Pages for a Day, and the memories still make me smile. Every one of them brought their own spark and reminded me how bright our future is when we pour into our youth.

Now we're only about a month away from heading back to Springfield for our next session. If you know of a young person that may be interested in the legislative process and what happens in Springfield, being a page for a day is a great way for them to experience it firsthand.

For more information of if you have questions, please contact my office at 630-755-4296.

I'm excited for what this next year will bring, and I can't wait to meet the next group of young leaders who join me!

Prairie State Policy Award

I'm honored to receive the Prairie State Policy Award from Americans for Prosperity Illinois.

Families across our state deserve leaders who fight to rein in government spending and ease the tax burden, and I'll continue working every day to make Illinois more affordable and accountable.

Thank you, AFP Illinois!

NO NEW TAXES!

I'm already gearing up for the upcoming session, which means filing and refiling legislation that matters most to you. One of my top priorities will be fiscal responsibility, because families across our district keep telling me the same thing: taxes are overwhelming. A recent survey shows 52% of Illinoisans say high taxes are the biggest issue we face.

So, what will I be fighting for?

NO new taxes

NO tax increases

We can't tax our way into prosperity. Families, seniors, and small businesses need relief. In the months ahead, I'll be fighting for a budget that respects your hard work.

I'm thrilled to share that Darien's own Justin Kono is bringing his musical talents to the stage as the drummer for Annie at Music Theater Works, running December 18 through January 14 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. This timeless production, with beloved songs like "Tomorrow" and "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," continues to inspire audiences with its message of hope and resilience. It's wonderful to see a member of our community contributing to such a classic story that reminds us all that brighter days are ahead!
