PUEBLO, CO - The City of Pueblo is proud to join the YMCA of Pueblo's Corporate Cup challenge as the spotlight Togetherhood Project this year. Togetherhood is the YMCA's signature volunteer-service initiative, in which Corporate Cup teams dedicate time, talent and teamwork to a hands-on community project.
"Partnering with the Pueblo YMCA, Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority and Baha Construction brings new life to these homes and celebrates the power of collective action," said Director of Housing and Citizen Services Melissa Cook. "We're honored that Corporate Cup teams are stepping up to beautify our city and support families in need."
Approximately 50 volunteers from Corporate Cup participating organizations will gather on Wednesday, Aug. 20, to revitalize homes in Pueblo's Bessemer and Eastside neighborhoods. Led by the City of Pueblo's Department of Housing and Citizen Services and Baha Construction, two teams of volunteers will apply a fresh, vibrant coat of paint the exterior of two income-qualifying families' homes.
With an average home age exceeding 55 years, Pueblo's neighborhoods face mounting rehabilitation needs. Even minor issues such as neglected siding or peeling paint can allow moisture intrusion, accelerating wood rot, mold growth and structural decay, driving up repair costs and undermining long-term durability.
Thanks to generous in-kind donations from Lowe's and The Home Depot, all brushes, rollers and safety gear will be on hand, ensuring every volunteer can contribute their best work.
"By investing in these homes, we preserve our aging housing stock, strengthen family stability and build resilience for generations to come," said Cook.
