Governor Mills Directs Flags Lowered Statewide on Friday in Honor of Fallen Firefighter Andrew Cross

Funeral services for Cross will be held on Friday afternoon in Morrill

Governor Janet Mills has directed that the United States and State of Maine flags be lowered statewide from sunrise to sunset on Friday, May 22, 2026, in honor of late Morrill firefighter Andrew Cross, who died last Friday as a result of the explosion and fire at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Veracity Chapel in Morrill.

"My heart goes out to the family, friends and colleagues of Andrew Cross," said Governor Janet Mills. "He died a hero."

Visiting hours for Cross will be held this Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast, with shuttles available from Belfast High School. Cross' full obituary can be found here.

Governor Mills previously directed flags lowered this Thursday, May 21, 2026 in concert with funeral services for the Honorable Gerald Talbot and Maine Game Warden Joshua Tibbetts.
