UI Health Care has launched a search for the next chief administrative officer of its North Liberty campus. The selected leader will provide executive leadership for campus operations and help guide its continued development as UI Health Care expands access and strengthens its system of care.
The search begins in advance of the planned retirement of Amy O'Deen, MHA, BSN, the campus's inaugural chief administrative officer and senior associate director of UI Health Care's clinical enterprise. O'Deen plans to retire in January 2027 after more than four decades of service to UI Health Care.
O'Deen was instrumental in the planning, design, construction, and opening of the North Liberty campus, which began serving patients in April 2025. She worked closely with partners across the university and community to bring the free-standing hospital from concept to completion.
"Amy's impact on UI Health Care extends far beyond any one role or campus," says Brad Haws, MBA, chief executive officer of UI Health Care's clinical enterprise and associate vice president of the health system. "Throughout her career, she has brought steady leadership, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to our patients and employees. Her ability to bring people together was especially important in transforming the North Liberty campus from a vision into a place where patients receive care every day. The strong foundation she has built will benefit UI Health Care and the people we serve for years to come."
O'Deen joined UI Health Care hospital administration in 1983. During her career, she has provided executive oversight for UI Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital, served as interim chief operating officer of the clinical enterprise, and held senior leadership responsibilities for numerous clinical, ancillary, and support departments. She also serves as the primary administrative liaison to the UI Health Network Rehabilitation Hospital in Coralville.
O'Deen earned a master's degree in hospital administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa, where she also competed on the Iowa volleyball team. She was awarded fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2007, received the Iowa ACHE Regent Award for leadership in 2025, and was recognized with an Iowa Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award in 2026. Her service has also included leadership roles with numerous university and community organizations.
The next chief administrative officer will work with leaders and teams across UI Health Care to support the North Liberty campus's operations, continued growth, and role within the broader clinical enterprise.
Additional information about the search and leadership transition will be shared as it becomes available.
