GW Retains High U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking

The George Washington University ranked tied for 59th out of 427 institutions in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report "Best Colleges" list, retaining its high placement from 2026.

"This ranking demonstrates GW's consistent provision of excellent education and our faculty's capacity for generating scholarship that makes a difference," Provost Edward J. Balleisen said. "I have every confidence that our dedicated professors, staff and students will work together to implement our new strategic framework, allowing us to pursue compelling interdisciplinary research, expand avenues for experiential learning and connect GW even more powerfully to institutions in the nation's capital."

GW earned spots on multiple "best of" lists in the 2027 list, including fifth for international business, 19th for undergraduate nursing, 32nd for study abroad and 36th in the category Top Private Schools-National Universities.

GW also featured among the best undergraduate academic programs in several disciplines:

• 50th in undergraduate business
• 50th in undergraduate psychology
• 65th in undergraduate computer science
• 72nd in undergraduate economics
• 78th in undergraduate engineering doctorate

The annual rankings in the "Best Colleges" list are a guide for prospective students. Statistically, the top-ranked schools provide ample classroom resources for students and faculty; achieve high graduation rates; and produce graduates who entered the workforce with manageable debt and high starting salaries.

In higher education, there are many indicators of excellence, and various organizations assess various metrics. GW, which in 2022 was named to the prestigious 71-member Association of American Universities, continues to be recognized for excellence.
