Sutter’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center Names Trevor D. Brand as New Chief Executive Officer

OAKLAND, Calif. - Sutter Health has named Trevor D. Brand, MSHA, FACHE, as chief executive officer of Sutter's Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, effective March 30.

In this role, Brand will report directly to Christina Oh, president of Sutter Health's Greater San Francisco and East Bay Division, and will serve as dyad partner to Ursula Boynton, M.D., chief medical executive of Alta Bates Summit.

"Trevor is a proven, values-driven leader with a strong track record of advancing quality, access and operational excellence," said Oh. "His ability to drive meaningful growth while strengthening culture and patient-centered care makes him exceptionally well suited to lead Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. I'm confident Trevor will build on the organization's strong foundation and continue to deliver outstanding care to the East Bay communities we serve."

Brand brings extensive executive healthcare leadership experience to Alta Bates Summit, most recently serving as CEO of Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, Calif. During his tenure at Sutter Delta, he led significant organizational growth and operational advancement, including the expansion of key clinical programs and services to better meet the needs of patients and the community.

Under Brand's leadership, Sutter Delta launched a state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory, implemented a DV5 surgical robotic system, and expanded gynecology, general surgery and orthopedics programs-resulting in the recruitment of five new surgeons and 4% year-over-year surgical growth. He also led the expansion of intensive care services to a 24/7 coverage model and introduced a new palliative care program to support patients and families.

At Sutter Delta, Brand advanced a strong focus on quality, efficiency and financial performance. During his tenure, Sutter Delta improved its Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade from a "D" to an "A," achieved best-practice performance across multiple quality metrics and realized significant year-over-year financial improvement. He also strengthened organizational culture at Sutter Delta through targeted workforce initiatives, achieving the largest percentage improvement in engagement scores across the Sutter system.

Prior to joining Sutter Health in 2024, Brand served as chief operating officer at City of Hope Atlanta, overseeing operations across six states. In that role, he strengthened service line performance, contributing to a 13% increase in hospital revenue, reduced employee turnover by 5% annually, and led a strategic capital planning process that resulted in a $10 million investment in equipment and facility improvements.

Brand's previous leadership experience also includes serving as chief operating officer and senior vice president of Operations at City of Hope Phoenix, as well as Chief of Staff and Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at City of Hope National. Earlier in his career, he held progressive leadership roles at Erlanger Health System in Tennessee and North Carolina.

Brand holds a master's degree in healthcare administration from Georgia State University and a bachelor's degree in healthcare management from Austin Peay State University and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
