Critical Incidents Report for March 2026
In March, TMPA opened 17 case files for critical incidents Critical incidents are cases in which an officer's actions, conduct, or omissions resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person; or could have resulted in such harm as a result of the officer intentionally discharging his or her firearm. These critical incidents involved members from various agencies throughout the state including: Big Spring Police Department, Castle Hills Police Department, Galveston County Sheriff's Office, Garland Police Department, Gillespie County Sheriff's Office, Hood County Sheriff's Office, Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, League City Police Department, Montague County Sheriff's Office, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Pearsall Police Department, South Houston Police Department, Tahoka Police Department, Texas City Police Department, Texas DPS, Universal City Police Department and include the following:
1. Member was involved in the in-custody death of a suspect who, after being handcuffed, fled on foot and drowned in a creek. Attorney Bob Gorsky assisted member with statement.
2. Member was involved in a pursuit with injuries where member attempted to affect a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 90 mph in a 35-mph zone. The vehicle evaded and crashed into an embankment and the driver was ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries. Attorney Chris Wanner assisted member.
3. Attorney Amanda Bolin assisted member who was involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash, resulting in the death of the suspect and injuries to civilians.
4. Member was involved in an in-custody death and was assisted by attorney Marsha Todd.
5. Member responded to a family disturbance call and was met by an aggressor, and edge weapons were present. Member detained aggressor and upon placing subject in a side-laying position, subject stopped breathing and died. Attorney Phil Johnson assisted member with statement.
6. Attorney Amber Wagner with Douglas O'Connell's office assisted member who was in a vehicle accident that involved a bicyclist.
7. Member was involved in the in-custody death of a suspect who, after robbing several ATM machines and killing a security guard, and upon being stopped by officers, committed suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Attorney Marsha Todd arrived on scene to assist member with statement.
8. Members responded to burn ban violator call. Upon arrival, violator reached for a weapon and members engaged the subject ending the threat. Attorney Lance Wyatt assisted members with statements.
9. Attorney Amanda Bolin assisted member who was involved in a pursuit fatality.
10. Attorney Robert Rogers with Bob Gorsky's office assisted member who was involved in a pursuit with injuries.
11. Seven other critical incidents involving an on-duty shooting (Attorneys who assisted include Raoaa King, Lytza Rojas, Chad Hyde, Lance Wyatt, Douglas O'Connell, Amber Wagner, Marsha Todd, .)
