New Photographer Correspondent in Washington

We are delighted to announce that Haiyun Jiang is joining The Times as a photographer correspondent based in Washington.

Haiyun was an impressive Washington-based photographer fellow in 2022-23. More recently as a freelance contributor, she's made photos that have provided our audience with nuanced insight into Washington: the complicated relationships, the energy around the administration, and what goes on behind the scenes as well as made-for-TV moments. Her work has won the admiration of both colleagues and competitors.

Haiyun is a strong addition to the formidable team The Times has built in Washington, a team responsible for innovative visual coverage during a relentless news cycle.

"I am absolutely thrilled that Haiyun is joining The New York Times," says Doug Mills. "She is an outstanding photographer, who has an incredible work ethic and fantastic eye. Haiyun has proven time after time that she can produce amazing images on any assignment. She has earned the respect of every photographer in Washington. Kenny Holston and I couldn't be happier to have her on our team."

Haiyun received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Xi'an International University, in China. She went on to receive a Master of Science in journalism from Boston University and a Master of Fine Arts in media arts and studies from Ohio University. She's interned with The Hill and CNN.

Please join us in welcoming Haiyun back to The Times. She begins later this month.
