Statement by President Meloni on the explosion in the province of Verona

I am deeply saddened to learn that three Carabinieri officers have tragically lost their lives and another 13 Carabinieri and police officers and firefighters have been injured in an explosion during an eviction operation in the province of Verona. I offer my deepest condolences and those of the Government to the families of the victims, and heartfelt sympathy to the Carabinieri Corps, which I expressed during a telephone call to the Commander General, General Salvatore Luongo.

I wish to extend my sincere wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured public security officers and firefighters, and I thank the healthcare workers and all those who so promptly and professionally intervened.

It is with sympathy and sorrow that I am closely following the developments of this dramatic incident, which reminds us once again of the value and daily sacrifice of those who serve the State and its citizens.
