San Salvador, September 8, 2025. As part of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration's (CABEI) commitment to environmental care and conservation, more than 40 volunteers from the multilateral organization participated in the eighth reforestation day at Utatlán Park, located in San Salvador.
During the activity, 500 native and fruit trees were planted, selected for their role within the forest system to accelerate ecological restoration and regenerate biodiversity. The trees were planted using the Japanese Miyawaki method, which results in a dense and diverse forest capable of capturing large amounts of carbon, improving soil quality, and conserving water, making them more resistant to the challenges of climate change.
Utatlán Park is a natural area of importance to local communities due to its production of water through infiltration and aquifer supply, as well as its production of oxygen, carbon fixation, and air purification. In addition, this park contributes to climate regulation, protects soils, and provides habitat for many species of wildlife.
Due to its beauty, Utatlán Park, which covers an area of 87 blocks and includes the Shanasigua River, offers a space for recreation and leisure, opening up opportunities for environmental awareness and education.
This initiative is carried out in order to offset the paper consumption of our activities and is part of CABEI's Environmental Management and Corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility System (SASC), through which it seeks to strengthen its commitment to the environment and communities.
