Woman Charged with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking

July 22, 2025, Peoria, IL - Today, Taccara V. Dear, 32, was charged with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Vehicular Hijacking, and Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle for stealing a car from a 66-year-old man over the weekend. At her detention hearing, the court granted the State's Petition to Detain, meaning Dear will remain in custody until her trial.

On Sunday, July 20, around 4 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at Sterling Plaza, located at 3701 N. Sterling Ave. The victim told police that while he was getting into his vehicle, a woman, later identified as Dear, reached through his car window, took his keys from the ignition, and fled on foot. When he tried to stop her, she struck him multiple times before getting into his vehicle and driving away.

Two witnesses saw the incident and confirmed the victim's statement. Officers later located Dear near the stolen vehicle. She admitted to stealing the vehicle and was taken into custody.
