WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) was awarded the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) Foundation's World Trade Award, which is given every year to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary efforts in advancing access to the global economy.
"Americans and American businesses are working harder than ever, while President Trump's broad-based tariff regime is raising costs and causing uncertainty that makes it nearly impossible for many companies to grow," said Kaine. "I've worked in the Senate to pass bipartisan legislation four times to repeal tariffs on goods from Canada, Brazil, and countries around the world-and welcomed a Supreme Court ruling that found the vast majority of Trump's tariffs are illegal. I look forward to continuing to press for more sensible trade policy that provides certainty for Virginia's businesses and lower costs for Virginia households, and appreciate NFTC's recognition tonight."
Kaine has been a leading voice in Congress against President Trump's new taxes on Americans. Kaine led four successful bipartisan pieces of legislation-one in April 2025 and three in October 2025-to passage in the Senate to nullify Trump's global tariff and levies on Canada and Brazil. Last month, Kaine helped introduce legislation to require full refunds of Trump's illegal tariffs after they were struck down by the Supreme Court. Last week, he introduced legislation alongside Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) to end Trump's indiscriminate 10 percent tariffs on most goods that he put in place after that Supreme Court ruling.
