Report Type: Evaluation
Component: Evaluations

What We Did:

The objective of this audit was to assess whether the DoW had capabilities to secure its unclassified wireless communications procured through the DoW's Wireless Mobility Services (Spiral 4) contract. We initiated this audit in response to a December 4, 2024 congressional request by Senators Ron Wyden and Eric Schmitt, which cited the DoW's failure to secure its unclassified communication devices and collaboration tools from foreign espionage. See Appendix B for the full letter from the Senators.

This report addresses the protection of the DoW's unclassified communication devices obtained through commercial wireless carriers. We plan to assess the security of the DoW's use of collaboration tools and its landline communications in the future.
