SIIA Statement on the Failure of the WTO Ministerial Conference to Reach Agreement on a Permanent Extension of E-Commerce Duty Moratorium

The following statement can be attributed to Chris Mohr, President, Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA).

SIIA commends Ambassador Greer and the USTR team for their strong advocacy at the 14th Ministerial Conference at Yaoundé in support of a permanent extension of the WTO e-commerce duty moratorium. Their efforts reflect the critical importance of the moratorium to American technology companies and the broader digital economy, and we are grateful for their work on the industry's behalf.

The expiration of the moratorium-which has been in place for nearly three decades-is a serious setback for global digital trade. We share the hope of many that WTO member countries will be able to reach an agreement to restore it, and we urge all parties to engage urgently and constructively toward that goal.
