DEC Announces Temporary Closure of Birdseye Hollow State Forest Foot Bridge in Steuben County

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced the temporary closure of the foot bridge at Birdseye Hollow State Forest in the Sanford Lake Recreation Area located in the town of Bath, Steuben County, due to necessary safety repairs.

A recent DEC inspection revealed significant structural deterioration, necessitating the bridge's closure for public safety. DEC staff is working to thoroughly assess the extent of the damage and develop a plan for repairs or replacement of the bridge.

The closure will temporarily restrict walking access between the Sanford Lake boat launch and camping area and campsite 7 near Kettle Road. All locations in the Sanford Lake Recreation Areas remain accessible from either Kettle or Round Lake Roads.

DEC will announce the bridge reopening upon completion of the maintenance work. Contact DEC's Bath suboffice at 607-776-2165 for more information.
