Applications Now Open for Older Adults Home Modification Program

The City of Reno, in partnership with Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada (RTNNV), is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Older Adults Home Modification Program.

The program benefits applicants who are 62 years old or older, with incomes at or below 80 percent of the area median income (AMI). Awarded applicants will receive modifications for their homes that aim to reduce fall risks, improve safety, and empower seniors to continue living independently. The program will be able to assist between 110 to 150 older adults, ages 62 and older, in receiving modifications to their homes.

"This program is so important to our senior community, and we encourage them to apply," said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. "This is a great opportunity for the City and Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada to support seniors by making important home improvements that promote safe and independent living."

In March 2025, the Reno City Council accepted the U.S. Department of Urban Development (HUD) Older Adults Home Modification Program Grant for $1.23 million. The grant was awarded to the City of Reno Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department.

"We are grateful to continue our partnership with the City of Reno to allow older adults to 'age in place' safely and with dignity in their home," said Meg Shea, CEO of Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada. "The home that our neighbors live in is the most affordable place to live and their most valuable asset."

To submit an application for the Older Adults Home Modification Program, visit the application page. Applications will be accepted until funds run out.

RTNNV will provide a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, supervised by a licensed Occupational Therapist, to help older adults identify their goals and develop strategies to safely navigate their homes.

The City of Reno is serving as the fiscal agent and oversee the program's financial and operational accountability, while RTNNV is acting as the subrecipient, managing the application process, intake, and direct execution of the home modifications.
