Whigham Dairy Road traffic flow changing as detour continues
What: A change in the traffic flow on Whigham Dairy Road, which has been closed to non-local/through traffic since February, is scheduled to begin next week. Only one lane will be open and traffic will be restricted to traveling south in the southbound lane.

The detour is part of a project to reconstruct and widen the county road and redesignate it as a state route. In addition to decreasing the volume of truck traffic downtown, the change is expected to help reduce the potential for crashes throughout the corridor. Work began in November 2024 with completion currently scheduled in the first quarter of 2027. The construction contract is approximately $9.7 million.

Where: Whigham Dairy Road between State Route 38 and SR 97/SR 309 in Decatur County. Non-local/through traffic should follow the detour signs.

When: Southbound only travel is scheduled to begin April 14. The Whigham Dairy Road detour is expected to remain in place until Nov. 20, 2026, subject to change depending on weather or other unforeseen events.
