Eleven Public Safety Professionals Complete POST Instructor Course


NEWARK, Del. - The Delaware Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) recognized 11 public safety professionals who completed its second annual POST Approved Instructor Course from July 20 to 24 at the University of Delaware Police Department.

The five-day course brought together participants from agencies across Delaware, highlighting the state's commitment to developing qualified instructors for law enforcement and public safety training. Participants represented the University of Delaware Police Department, New Castle County Department of Public Safety, Delaware Capitol Police, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Newark Police Department and Delaware State University Police Department.

The POST Approved Instructor Course prepares experienced law enforcement officers and public safety professionals to become POST-approved instructors for academy and in-service training programs. Throughout the week, participants strengthened the skills needed to deliver effective instruction and evaluate student learning.

Course topics included:

  • Principles of learning
  • Classroom management
  • Lesson plan development
  • Methods of instruction
  • Evaluating instructional effectiveness

Upon successful completion of the course, each participant earned POST instructor approval, expanding Delaware's cadre of certified instructors and helping ensure high-quality training for current and future law enforcement officers and public safety professionals.

The POST Commission thanks the University of Delaware Police Department for hosting the course for a second consecutive year and for its continued partnership in advancing professional development throughout Delaware's public safety community.

The Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST), a division of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS), oversees standards and training for all police officers in Delaware.
