Brooklyn Event with Pastor A.R. Bernard to Center on How Recent Presidential Action Exacerbates Situation Facing Many Haitians, Including Diaspora Members in U.S.
NEW YORK, NY (June 17, 2025) - Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of National Action Network (NAN), will condemn the Trump Administration's recent travel ban on Haitians at a Juneteenth event in Brooklyn this Thursday, noting the recent action only worsens the crisis for innocent people in the embattled island nation.
"Donald Trump's latest travel ban is his latest affront to America's role as a beacon of hope for the tired, poor huddled masses yearning to be free," said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. "This especially affects Haitians, many of whom have relatives right here in New York City, who desperately need to escape continued uncertainty and threats in the nation. As we commemorate freedom here in the United States on Juneteenth, we must use this moment to continue the fight to ensure everyone in every corner of the globe is free."
Rev. Sharpton will appear alongside Pastor A.R. Bernard and the Haitian American Alliance of New York at the Christian Cultural Center Church, led by the former, in Brooklyn. Last February, Rev. Sharpton and Pastor Bernard stood with faith leaders and New York City-based members of the Haitian Diaspora at City Hall to call on the prior federal administration to provide more support for the nation as it endured violence and political uncertainty. Even while the situation has stabilized, many Haitians have sought refuge in the United States as well as visit family here.
